Food containers are chosen by the food’s temperature, how it is served (eaten in, taken away or delivered), and whether it will be reheated.

Thinwall

Thin PP containers with tight lids. Light, stackable, and generally sold as safe for the microwave and the freezer; check the symbols on the product you choose. When heating, loosen a PP lid; a PET lid must come off. Common sizes run from 200 ml to 1,000 ml, some up to 3,000 ml, for side dishes, rice, salads, desserts and sambal.

Paper bowls and paper cups

Paper with a thin PE lining inside so it holds liquids and oil; a PLA lining can be composted, but only in industrial composting. PE-lined paper bowls suit noodles, meatball soup, rice bowls and salads, commonly in 500 ml to 1,000 ml; paper cups suit coffee, tea and cold drinks.

• Single wall for cold or warm drinks.
• Double wall for hot drinks, so the cup stays comfortable to hold.
• Cup sizes are usually given in ounces: 8 oz is about 240 ml, 12 oz about 350 ml, 16 oz about 470 ml, 22 oz about 650 ml.

Plastic cups

PP cups take more heat and crack less; PET cups are clearer and suit cold drinks such as iced coffee and juice. Match the cup’s rim diameter to its lid (flat, dome or sealed).

Choose products marked food grade and ask for the factory’s material details; plastic codes are explained in the guide food-grade plastic codes. Many cups, bowls and thinwall containers can carry your logo: put the design and quantity in your quote notes.
